Family Support Center

Unless otherwise noted, the following programs will be in the family support center classroom, Bldg. 2, Area C. For more information on any of the following, call 257-3592.

Positive communication: Learn how to communicate and techniques on how not to, 11 a.m. to noon today. Maria Strasser-Brady facilitates this class.

Starting your own business: Linda Gorman from the Dayton Area Chamber of Commerce will cover how to write a business plan and the issues that need to be addressed in the plan 11 a.m. to 1 p.m. Monday. She will also discuss home-based businesses and franchises as well as operational issues on how to get started.

Dress for success for women: The family support center will be offering a seminar for women on the basics of successful business dress, how to conquer “business casual” dress for the interview, and the basics of color, image and clothing personality 11 a.m. to 1 p.m. April 30.

Meetings

Parents and Tots Playgroup: The “Parents and Tots Playgroup” meets every Wednesday morning, 10:30 a.m. to noon at the Chapel 3 Annex in Page Manor. Any parents with children who are 6 weeks to preschool age are encouraged to join the group. You do not need to register for the program. For more information contact Monique Muncy at 257-6429.

Computers and security: The 88th Communications Group software and security division will conduct an information assurance workshop 9 a.m. to 3:30 p.m. May 10 in Air Force Institute of Technology’s Kenney Hall, Bldg. 642 in Area B. Toastmasters: Each Toastmasters club provides a supportive environment to develop greater communication, listening, thinking and leadership skills. Walk-in guests are always welcome and not obligated to participate. The following base clubs may be contacted for more information:

Miscellaneous

Garage sale fundraiser: The 88th Support Group Booster Club will conduct a fundraising garage sale May 6 at the Kittyhawk Pavillion (near the enlisted club), in Kittyhawk Center. Table space will be sold for $15 a table. Contact 2nd Lt. Scott Lamont at 257-3301 for more information.

International fair: The officers wives club will present an international fair, 11 a.m. to 1 p.m. April 26 in the officers club ballroom. Enjoy colorful costumes, unusual customs, traditional dancing and food from around the world. Your $5 donation will benefit the OWC welfare fund.

GSA expo: The General Services Administration will conduct an international products and services exposition May 22-24 in Orlando, Fla. It will feature workshops on performance based acquisitions, the government credit card, federal supply schedules, electronic commerce, completing a statement of work, Defense Logistics Agency panel discussions, and many more emphasizing new technology and financial management. Attend your choice of more than 100 hours of free training.

Kings Island Wright-Patterson Day: Stop by any Information, Tickets and Tours office and pick up your tickets for Kings Island Wright-Patterson Day, June 3. Tickets cost $19 and include parking. Tickets for season pass holders cost $5. Park opens at 9 a.m. and closes at 9 p.m. Tickets are limited and must be purchased in advance. Call 255-4857 for more information.

Aero club spring special: Rent the club’s Cessna 172 for only $50 an hour and save $9 off the regular hourly rate through July 1. For more information, call 257-7714.

Secretaries day: The officers club is sponsoring a secretaries day luncheon Wednesday. Bring your secretary in and have lunch. All secretaries will receive a gift. Cost is $4.95 for members and $6.95 for non-members. To make reservations, call 257-9762, ext. 10.

Skills Development

The following programs will be in the skills development center, Bldg. 95, Area C. For more information on any of the following, call 257-7025.

Bob Ross floral painting: Learn to paint basic flowers using the Bob Ross "wet-on-wet" technique. You do not have to have painting experience. The class has a limited number of students, so get your reservations in early. All painting supplies will be furnished. At the end of each class you will have a completed painting. Bring a roll of soft paper towels and a sack lunch. Class fee is $45. Classes meet 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. Saturday and May 19.

Pottery class: Pottery classes meet 5:30-8:30 p.m. Thursdays for six weeks, starting Thursday or Saturdays for six weeks from 9 a.m. to noon starting Saturday. Hand-built and thrown pottery basic techniques will be taught. Class fee is $50 plus a $15 material fee.

Stained glass workshops: Workshops will meet 9:30 a.m. to 3 p.m. April 28. A “cardinal in a ring” will be the featured project in this workshop. Workshop fees vary with the project scheduled. Glass is purchased separately.

Education

Air Force clubs’ scholarships: Entries for the Air Force clubs’ fifth annual club membership scholarship program are due July 15. Three scholarships will be awarded: first prize is $5,000, second is $3,000 and third is $2,000. Entry forms are available in the Services marketing office in Bldg. 70. For more information, call 257-8220.

OTS applications: Officer’s Training Squadron applications are due to Air Force Recruiting Service headquarters by May 29 for members who need an approval of a waiver to meet the June selection board.

Interested applicants may schedule an appointment with an Air Force guidance counselor by contacting Angela Wenzel at 257-6585, ext. 226.

Instrument ground school: The aero club will hold an instrument ground school starting Tuesday. The cost of the class is $250 and includes books and materials. The class will meet for six weeks, 6-9 p.m. each Tuesday and Thursday. For more information or to register for the class, call 257-7714.

Training

LPDP: The next Lieutenant’s Professional Development Program class will be May 21-25. Classes will meet 8 a.m. to 12:30 p.m. Future class dates for this year include July 9-13, Oct. 1-5, and Dec. 3-7. For more information or to sign up for the next class, contact 2nd Lt. Social

ALS graduation: The banquet and graduation ceremony honoring Class 01-D of the Wright-Patterson Airman Leadership School will take place 6:15 p.m. May 10 at the officers club. Cost for the event is $14 for club-members and $17 for non-club members. Reservation deadline is May 2. For reservations, contact the Airman Leadership School Faculty at 255-5001.

Association luncheon: The Airlift/Tanker Association is sponsoring a luncheon Tuesday in the officers club’s Fireside room. The featured speaker is Bill Arndt, vice president for strategic airlift from Lockheed Martin Aerospace. The topic will be C-5 modernization. For more information, call Vickey Jacoby at 255-9300.

Police association meeting: The Air Force Security Police Association announces 15th annual meeting will be in Fort Worth, Texas Sept. 27-29 at the Green Oaks Inn.
